  • Selectively pick elements of the data (or equivocally selectively throw elements of the data array)

  • Sean's intuition: invertible, you don't lose information.

  • Generate new data of a different nature than the input

• Sub-types to consider: "fixed" where the output size is independent of the input size and "proportional" where the output changes size in response to the size of the input data.
