Reza Rejaie is a Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Oregon. He is also a founding Associate Director of the Oregon Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (OCCoE), where he leads cybersecurity education and workforce development initiatives at the University of Oregon. He served as Head of the Department of Computer Science from 2020 to 2026, including throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reza joined the University of Oregon in 2002 and founded the Oregon Network Research Group (ONRG) in 2004. He played a central role in establishing graduate and undergraduate programs in networking. He has supervised seven Ph.D. dissertations and eleven master’s theses at UO. He has spearheaded the development of the University's cybersecurity education ecosystem, including bachelor's, master's, and graduate certificate programs, together with experiential learning initiatives such as the Teaching Security Operations Center (TSOC) and the RISK Clinic at the University of Oregon. He initiated and led the state-funded Nurturing Inclusive Cybersecurity Education (NICE) project, which promotes cybersecurity education and training among high school teachers and students across Oregon.

His research interests include cybersecurity, network measurement, Internet architecture, congestion control, multimedia networking, peer-to-peer systems, and social computing. His research has been widely cited and has influenced both academic research and industrial practice. He received an NSF CAREER Award in 2005 for his work on peer-to-peer streaming and a Marie Curie Fellowship from the European Union in 2009. In 2026, he was awarded the Fulbright-Nokia Distinguished Chair in Information and Communications Technologies. Reza has held visiting professor positions at Sorbonne University, the Politecnico di Torino, and the IMDEA Networks Institute.

Reza has served on the editorial boards of several journals, participated in numerous program committees, and contributed to several NSF review panels. He has also served as an expert witness, technology consultant, and advisory board member, and has built research partnerships with industry collaborators for more than 20 years. He is a Fellow of the IEEE (2017), recognized for his contributions to multimedia and peer-to-peer networking and Internet measurement, and a Distinguished Member of the ACM (2022) for Outstanding Scientific Contributions to Computing.

Before joining the University of Oregon, Reza was a Senior Technical Staff Member at AT&T Labs–Research. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California (USC) in 1996 and 1999, respectively, under the supervision of Deborah Estrin and Mark Handley. During his time at USC, he was involved in research at the Information Sciences Institute (ISI), the Computer Networks and Distributed Systems Laboratory, and the Database Laboratory. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in 1991.
