Summary:

Dan Carrere is a Senior Cybersecurity faculty member in U of O's Computer Science department, teaching in U of O's Cybersecurity program. Dan has over 33 years of Cybersecurity / Computer and Network Security experience in industry with 23 years of that time offering courses in Cybersecurity / Computer and Network Security specializing in Cybersecurity, Unix systems, and Networking. He maintains industry relevance through ongoing professional development. Prior to joining the U of O, Dan Carrere was a Tenured Associate Professor and Cybersecurity Program Director at the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) and was a founder of the Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity (which began its offering in 2019). He began his teaching in Cybersecurity by teaching courses for the Common Body of Knowlege (CBK) review for the CISSP and worked to offer CISSP testing by ISC2 in Eugene, Oregon for Symantec. Dan has taught courses covering initially: Unix Security (including Solaris, BSD Unix, and Linux), Security Introduction, Operating Systems Hardening, Firewalls and VPNs, Network Monitoring and Management, Advanced Network Security, Security Operations, Cloud Security and Related (2001 – current). Dan creates inclusive learning environments, is skilled in curriculum development, and holds leadership roles within U of O. Dan is one of the early founders of user groups for BSD Unix and Linux. He has also served in past years on the board of directors for OpenSource funding organizations (i.e. BSDFund / LinuxFund). Overall, Dan is excited about the opportunities for all that are offered by OpenSource and is also committed to helping the Internet Service Providers provide better, faster, more available and more secure connectivity.
