A photo of Tim Halverson My name is Tim Halverson. I received my PhD from the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Oregon in December, 2008. My advisor was Dr. Anthony J. Hornof.

I am currently a post-doc in the Performance and Learning Model (PALM) Lab, part of the Air Force Research Laboratories, in Mesa, AZ. I am participating in research to understand the effects sleep, circadian rhythms, and time-on-task have on human performance. Specifically, I am building computational cognitve models to understand and predict how these factors affect cognitive and perceptual processes.

My research interests lie largely in human-computer interaction (HCI). Specific interests relate to computational cognitive modeling, visual perception and eye tracking. To date, the majority of my research has focused on identifying and understanding visual strategies people use when interacting with computer displays. My dissertation (pdf), entitled "An 'active vision' computational model of visual search for human-computer interaction", investigated how to predict (a) where the eyes move, (b) when the eyes move, (c) what information in the environment is processed during a fixation, and (d) what information is integrated between fixations, in a straightforward manner using cognitive architectures, like EPIC.

You can find out more about the type of research I do on my research projects page, and view or download my publications on my publications page.
