CIS 407/507 Seminar, Programming Competition (Fall 1998)
Along with colleges and universities world-wide, the University of
Oregon participates in the annual ACM International Collegiate
Programming Contest. This seminar is designed to help students
prepare for the Contest.
Weekly sessions will include discussions of programming and
problem-solving strategies as well as practice in an ACM-type
environment. The seminar will meet weekly, for 3-4 hours, from the
start of the term through November 13th, with the final session being
the Pacific Regionals of the ACM Contest on Saturday, November 14th.
Participation in the Pacific Regionals is not mandatory for seminar
registrants. In any case, we can send only two teams of three
students each. However, it is assumed that students who register are
willing and eager to represent UO at the event.
NOTE: Seminar enrollment is not required for participation in the ACM
Contest. But students interested in the Contest must let us know by
October 9.
For the record the old call for participation:
The second annual CIS programming competition is scheduled for
Saturday, April 18, 1998, 8:00am - 12:30pm. There will be grad and
undergrad divisions.
Participation is by 3-person teams who are expected to produce working
programs for proposed problems. The general nature of the problems
will follow the format of the
ACM Competition.
They emphasize both programming and problem-solving ability.
For our local contest, the environment will provide Java, C, and
C++.
Prize: The winning-team members in each division will each receive
a gift certificate at the UO Bookstore.
Deadline for registering your team (with Gene Luks) is April 14.
