(Jan. 10) A question about HW#1:
"on question 15 in chapter 5, what do we need to turn in for part b?"
Answer: there is a typo; "for" is redundant (i.e., you are supposed to
run the segments for several values of N).
(Jan. 14) The postscript file containg solutions to HW#1 is ready for your perusal
(Jan. 16) The next assignments (HW#2 and PA#1) are posted.
(Jan.22) The definition of binomial coefficients in the text should read "C(N,0)=1" rather than "C(N,k)=1".
(Jan.23) One more typo in the same problem: the recurrence relation is C(N,k)=C(N-1,k)+C(N-1,k-1).

(March 13) This coming Friday, there will be a 45 mins. pretest in class. Please come promptly.
(March 14) The questions on the "pretest" tested only "the flavor"
of the material we studied this quarter (I did not know that
yesterday) and I would not recommend to anybody in the class to lose
the educational opportunity of the final exam, or the preparation for
it. For your information, the average score was 75% (I weighted the
problems slightly), with standard deviation of 15%
